Hi!

Writing to let you know of an event we are planning in Pittsfield in the summer to promote community music and spirit!

"Pickin' and Picnic in the Park"

It's to be held at Bandstand in Hathorn Park, Pittsfield in July. If it proves popular we are thinking once a month in the summer.

The basic idea is that musicians would gather for a Pickin' and folks could come along and listen and bring a picnic if they wished.

It would be very informal, (as is the nature of a pickin') and any instrument would be welcome, including voice. A place where people could meet know musical friends, learn new songs and generally get together.

We are looking at Thurs July 17 for the first date, starting at 6.00pm

As a local musician we would like your thoughts on the idea, and hope you would be able to along.

Pittsfield Town have welcomed the idea and are happy for us to use the bandstand.

PLEASE COULD YOU PASS THIS INFO ALONG TO ANY MUSICIANS YOU KNOW, AND MY EMAIL INFO - AND IF YOU CAN THINK OF ANYONE I SHOULD BE TALKING TO PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Many thanks!

Well, the time has come for me to entertain starting an Internet radio stream for MME. The first show I'd like to do is a newer version of the "Homegrown in Maine" show I was doing a while back for WJZF-FM. I have all the gear, software, and songs here, so I thought I might be able to start running at least an automated show a couple nights a week playing your original music, maybe for a couple hours a night. What do you think? Would you like your own show? Would you tune in? Would you send me your CDs for inclusion? Would you travel to my studio way up here in Plymouth (Exit 161) to perhaps give an interview and do a few of your tunes for the show?

I'm going to be setting up some demo/test scenarios in coming weeks to see what kind of format and technical specs work best. Initiially we'll be limited by bandwidth contraints as to how many listeners we can support, but if it takes off and people use it, we'll be able to get more bandwidth.

So people, watch for more info coming soon, and get back to me with your answers to the questions above, thoughts, ideas, and comments through the Forums here on MME!

How to change your email address on MME PDF Print E-mail

We're now seeing a slew of changes with the latest migrations where FairPoint is taking over the old Verizon systems. These include new email addresses for former Verizon Internet customers. So, how do you change your email address here on MME? Well, it's easy.

First, log into your account. (If you can't recall your account and/or password, send me a note via the Contact Us page with any info you can give me to find your account and I'll check it and get back to you.) Once you're logged into the site, the User Menu appears below the Main Menu on the left of the screen. Choose the "Account Details" selection, which takes you to your Profile. Click the "Edit" tab at the top, selecting the "Update your profile" choice. On the next screen, click the "Contact Info" tab, and change your email address in the appropriate field, then click Update on the bottom. That's it!

Please make sure this new address is working! The site will send you a note to confirm it to make sure we've got a correct address, and if not confirmed, your account may be locked out. If this happens, contact me, again, through the Contact Us page.  Remember, we always keep your email address private to reduce the chance of spammers gathering it from the web site.  We'll never sell or give it to others unless required by law.

And believe me, I know what a pain it is to have to change email addresses, etc. So we try to keep it pretty simple here!

Three years and counting! PDF Print E-mail

Well, with the passing of Thanksgiving, MME became 3 years old! It doesn't seem possible. Three years already. I admit I had hoped the site would be further along than it is in terms of having a community here supporting each other, but I know the energy prices, economic issues, and lack of work and layoffs going around make life more difficult in Maine. And that usually means people have to pay attention to personal income and keeping costs down and taking care of one's self and family. Oh boy, do I understand!

Of course, it doesn't help that the State can't seem to accept the simple truth that they need to reduce spending when times get tough instead of increasing taxes or adding fees to pay for extra programs that we just can't afford. I used to work for a mental health agency (yes, I've been laid off recently, too - great time of year for it, huh?), and while a lot of cuts are happening in that sector, it's not nearly enough for the budget cuts we really need. There's something very wrong when the State government is the second-largest employer by sector in the latest stats, behind only the Trade/Transportation/Utilities sector. And the State jobs have, on average, increased income levels faster than any others in the state. Yup, sounds similar to the questions everyone is asking about fuel prices: why did we have gas prices over $4/gallon last summer and now we're at $1.80? WTF?

Anyway, hope you had a good Thanksgiving, and are looking forward to happy holidays!  MME is looking forward to 2009 and will be here for you!  Be safe this holiday season!  See you on the other side!
