The Maine Musicians Exchange idea was cultivated by founder Gordon Cunningham (redbeard) as a way to give back to the musical community of his home state of Maine. He envisioned a self-service community-style site where musicians and other entertainment-related people could get together, share ideas and converse, share their works and show off talents, and generally have a sounding board for all. A true exchange of all things musical, and more. After moving back to Maine (from away) in 2005, Gordon, an information technology veteran, chose the MME domain name (with an obvious sense of humor) and set up the site during Thanksgiving vacation 2005 using a popular feature-rich content management system that allows for easy learning and administration while presenting information in a newsletter or modular style. The system allows easy management while providing security and a contribution mechanism. Thus, MME was born. Shortly after MME's birth, Gordon was (and still is) looking for contributors and helpers - article writers, reviewers, moderators, etc. Wendy Deschenes (wenwen) of the Lewiston-Auburn area joined on and threw her considerable free-time donations into the MME site, and the result has been a steadily growing community. But Wendy has left and MME is more than a one-person endeavor. Currently, advertising is kept at a minimum, but advertising alone does not and cannot pay for the site. Gordon pays for the MME site out of his own pocket and spends considerable time and energy maintaining the technical details behind the scenes. The ideas are endless, the time to write/perform/contribute isn't. Thus we are always looking for fellow enthusiasts to help out in any way they feel comfortable. MME is interested in serving the people who use it, and are therefore open to suggestions and requests and usually act on them quickly. The intent is that MME will always be free for anyone interested in the community it serves, while protecting the privacy and sensitive information of its constituents. Registration is necessary for security and allows anyone who logs on to post or reply to postings and use many features, but most areas can be viewed publicly without registration. We accept donations to help defray/fund the site costs and perhaps expand into other areas. For more info see our timeline in the article celebrating our first anniversary, or drop us a line via a forum post or the Contact Us pages. And, Welcome to the Maine Musicians Exchange!
