Hello All,
Understandably, I know that there are a lot of people that don’t agree with some of my opinions. Well, I know this…..I have for a while. Mostly, my articles are written as a tongue in cheek “this is the kind of thing I hear around the scene but no one else will say it” type stuff. Yes, I have opinions, everyone does…they are like butt-holes, we all have them and sometimes people don’t like to lick them (you get what I mean).
This article is not going to be a lambasting of anyone or anything. I want to let you all in on a new position I have accepted and am pretty excited about.
Kaleem Clarkson created an organization called Concerts 4 Charity a few years ago in Worcester, MA. He holds events for, well, charities and helps out local bands at the same time. Kaleem has helped out numerous organizations such as Toys for Tots, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, The American Red Cross, and countless others over the past few years. He holds Rock the Clause every December to help out the Marine Corp. Philanthropyfest in Worcester to unite charity organizations and hold a great concert. This man has done everything he can to combine his love of local (and sometimes, when lucky, National) music and the charity community. He is looked upon as a figure head for selflessness in the Maine Music scene. I, personally, have never heard someone say “Kaleem Clarkson” and finish the sentence with anything other than a compliment about his kindness and willingness to help. Concerts 4 Charity is Kaleem’s baby. He has spawned chapters in MA, MI, and CA, all of which work together towards the same goal…Bringing musicians together to help people who need them.
As any father must do at some point in his child’s life, Kaleem is letting his baby grow without him here in Maine. He will be relocating to the ATL and spawning another chapter of Concerts for Charity in the Dirty South. He will be stepping away from two positions in Maine: Executive Director of Maine Operations and Maine Entertainment Director.
With the assistance of my long-time friend Jonathan Taylor (JT, singer of Loki), we hope to continue Kaleem’s vision in Maine. JT will take the Executive Director’s position and I will focus my attention towards my new position as Maine Entertainment Director. Basically, we will be doing what Kaleem has successfully done for the past few years in Maine and hopefully expanding on it. This is an exciting move for the both of us. We have always respected Kaleem’s work and each of us, with our respective bands, have played numerous Concerts 4 Charity events and raised money for those in need.
What does the future hold? Well, Concerts 4 Charity will continue hosting shows. We will be putting on about 4 huge events a year like we have in the past and we will be looking for the bands that want to help. We are looking for the bands that have the mindset to help people and to share the stage with others who are of the same mindset. Rock the Clause is coming up and the venue is still being secured so I will not let that out yet, but, we are looking for bands. I have in mind two or three bands that I would love to see on the same stage and I am sure you guys out there do too. Let me know, write a comment and tell me who you would like to see on stages with whom. I can not wait to put on some kick ass shows and help this organization to grow.
