Who's Playing Where

The Next Great American Band PDF Print E-mail
The News - Commentary

Have you seen this show yet?  I gotta say, I was drawn in.

On Friday nights for the next few weeks we are going to be privy to a show about finding America’s next great band.  A competition in the same vein as American Idol and such that is actually quite interesting.  Each week the bands get to not only play their interpretations of songs by some of the greatest artists of our time but also right after that song, play their own original songs.  It is pretty cool.  Of course there are the bands that just won’t make it further than the first or second round, but that goes without saying.

Here is what I have noticed about the show already.  They have a wide array of musical genres and personal styles.  Some good, some just outright bad.  One thing I did notice over the past two weeks though: no New England bands tried out and/or made the show.  Why is that?  Has this area of the country become so stagnant since the release of the first Godsmack CD that no one even looks to us anymore?

I'd like to welcome the newest artists using the FREE MME Artists site* to post their original tunes and videos and other stuff. If you haven't already signed up as a fan, what are you waiting for?

Blind Albert is well on their (his) way with a couple great tunes in the roick and blues vein.
NO DIVA has registered and I'm sure they are putting together their stuff now, though as of this writing they have not posted yet.
Kirbside Prophet has also registered for a site and it is currently awaiting their posts.

Keep your eyes on these sites as the new artists add their stuff!

*The MME Artist Site allows musicians who aren't "web savvy" to create and maintain a free, fully functioning web site that includes their tunes, videos, pics, blog, online "radio station", posting items for sale through Paypal, and much more! Sign up as a fan and subscribe to your fave bands/artists, too!

From Gerry McDaniel by email:
Ever wish you had a quality and convenient venue in which to play, where you can comfortably invite any member of the family, friends, colleagues etc.? Well, we may be the place. I have a desire that our new Bistro located in the Mr. Paperback bookstore on Lisbon street offer live music nightly.

I wish to bring back the days when live music was plentiful and available.  I would love to see our place pumping out songs most every night. I would love to see talented musicians (anything from classical to light rock) showcasing their stuff and getting paid for it too.  Additionally, I would love the opportunity to offer budding musicians a venue in which to play and hone their skills. I am aware that aspiring musicians need opportunities also.

We wish to be as inclusive as possible. Barbershop quartets or any vocal group will work also. Instrumentalists such as violinists, flutists, pianists etc. etc. will also be great. Should you have additional questions please feel free to contact me.

Well, perhaps we could help each other. Lets communicate and see what it is we can do for each other. We are L/A Coffee and Wine Bistro located at the Mr. Paperback bookstore, 855 Lisbon Steet in Lewiston, Maine. L/A Bistro is safe, attractive, and we would love to hear music resonate each evening.

Be a part of our growth. If you have an interest, please feel free to e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 207-321-1601.

Are you and independent artist, putting your hard work, sweat, blood, tears and heart out there onto CD and making your songs available to the Internet masses?

Are you a Maine artist and want more exposure?  Or perhaps you're playing in the area?  Or maybe you just need a web site for your music?

MME has Jamroom set up for you.  Jamroom is an artist web site manager that implements an easy-to-use and administrate web site templating system, not too different from MySpace.  It allows you or your favorite webmaster, or even the MME admins, to create and maintain a web site for yourself, your company, your band, even your record label!  Some of the features include:

  • Multiple pre-existing templates to choose from, or create a custom template of your own
  • Easy administration of your site through back-end admin accounts and pages - even have multiple admins/webmasters
  • Support for multiple audio and video file types
  • Create "stations" that manage playlists for your fans to easliy play your tunes/vids
  • Add items to your catalog available for purchase through the PayPal payment systems
  • Maintain your events and gigs calendars
  • Allow fans and street teams to sign up as members and keep in touch through mutual blog posts
  • Automatic lo-fi creator for your tunes for dial-up and low-bandwidth users
  • Choose whether to allow downloads or just streaming playing or just snippets for preview of your tunes/vids
  • Set up a photo gallery - even sell photos via the payment system
  • Create "radio" or "tv" station playlists that include other songs from other artists and even other web sites!

Jamroom is free for MME members.  You must be an MME member and you must be creating your own music (independent artist).  MME Jamroom cannot host covers of any other non-independent artist due to copyright, rights management, and royalty collection issues.

Try it today!  Click the "MME Artists Sites" button at left and log in with username "demo", pwd "demo".  Check out the back end and upload a song and pics, etc.  Create a radio station with your tunes.  See how it all works.  Then...

Contact an MME admin to get your site started today!

Sundog -
is a four-piece classic rock, rock cover band from the Augusta Maine area. Sundog has been a continuous band for the better part of 14 years. Originally formed in the early 90s when the members of two other bands, Antix and Shark Sandwich, united to create the high-energy, in-your-face show they still perform today. I saw them recently (again) at Charlie's Entertainment Center on Main Street in Norway.
