We now have the ability to map locations (by zipcode) of MME members on a Google map. I wanted to give everyone this security warning first:
IMPORTANT! This feature may involve personal security and you should think over very carefully whether you want your general location mapped using the zipcode from your profile. If you do not wish to be mapped, DO NOT enter your Zipcode in your Member Profile.
I have gone through the member database and removed all zipcodes to enable the new mapping functions without revealing any info about members. If you wish to allow others to see where you are, enter your zipcode in your profile. To edit your profile, log into the MME site, and click the "Account Details" button on the User Menu. Then click the Edit menu/Update Your Profile seleciton. The Zipcode field is in the Contact Info section.
On the positive side, this will allow you to see how far away other MME members are from you, and perhaps allow you to better locate possible band members, bands, intermediate places for practice, etc.
The maps will be generated on-the-fly, and since we have over 230 registered members (YEAH!), the java-based maps may take a little time to generate. As of this writing, there are a few issues with different browsers, but for the most part it works in most of them. Also, you'll see me somewhere in the middle of the state!
Check it out and let me know what you think!

When tossing around the idea of me doing some cd reviews for this site...my first thought was "what cd do I review first?" After thinking... and thinking... and thinking some more, I came to one conclusion: there were just too many I'd want to do. So what did I decide on? Doing a whole bunch!! What you about to read is my own Top 10 of 2006. They're not in any particular order, as I don't think I can choose my favorite local album. I think everyone in this scene has their own unique and different touches when it comes to music, and my personal opinion is that no one is better than the next guy... just different. I know there may be some people who disagree, but this is why we all have opinions! Without further ado....

As part of a killer show I saw at the Asylum on December 29, I was pleased to be introduced to a very good band based out of Portland, Highway Jackson. As top ticket sellers, Highway played to a super large, pumped up crowd.

Club DV8, Portland Maine, November 24, 2006
Despite the fact that the Outsiders had the distinction of being the headlining act, we all know how difficult it is to be the last band of the evening. I can honestly say they didn’t have a hard time keeping the crowd pumped up and filling the place with eager fans that waited it out through three other bands.

Losing Tomorrow Club DV8, Portland Maine, November 24, 2006
Virtual ‘Newbies’ to the local music scene, Augusta based ‘Losing Tomorrow’ gave a very good performance at this show.
After checking out their myspace page, I knew I had to see them live. So I pulled a few strings to get them on the bill because I didn’t want to wait too long to see them.
